Hmmm, that was what worried me when Deaf community celebrated three years ago when government announced that they 'recognise' BSL - what the hell does it mean?!! Seems like they have just acknowledge the presence of BSL in the UK and that's it!
I've never had the chance to check this out personally but it seems that the government is saying that the charter for European minority languages has been set up for spoken and not signed languages - is this 'problem' strictly true? I'm not too sure myself. Why do the government need the European excuse? The parliament is very capable of recognising languages of the nation and do not need the European parliament to do it for them!!!
